NOW IT’S ALL ABOUT EXECUTION AND COMMUNICATION

It is a great achievement by the United Nations to have created these GOALS.

And it’s an even greater achievement to have them signed up to, by nearly every country on earth. But the SDGs are expressions of intent, a set of promises. And we are five years into the fifteen year SDG period – 2015 to 2030 – and we are falling behind.

Tackling and solving the SDGs is not a legally-binding commitment, nor enforced by a global regulatory body. The mechanisms of ‘stick and carrot’ to drive the world forward in implementation of the Goals are proving inadequate so far.

Now the focus must shift towards a huge increase in awareness, a major effort in creating more pathways to change for organisations, cities, companies, as well as countries to change their behaviour. This is one of the driving ambitions and objectives of The Transformation Games.

The three pillars of the SDGs are these…

The Goals apply to every nation … and to every sector. Cities, businesses, schools, organizations, all are challenged to act. This is called UNIVERSALITY…

The Goals are all inter-connected, in a system. We cannot aim to achieve just one Goal. We must achieve them all. This is called INTERGRATION…

The Goals involve making very big, fundamental changes in how we live on Earth. This is called TRANSFORMATION…

THE GOALS ARE A ONCE-IN-A-LIFE TIME OPPORTUNITY

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals form a cohesive and integrated package of global aspirations the world has committed to achieving, by 2030.

Building on the accomplishments of their predecessors, the MDGs (the Millennium Development Goals), the SDGs address the most pressing global challenges of our time, calling for collaborative partnerships across and between countries, to achieve and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion.

THE COST OF INACTION ON THE SDGS IS FAR HIGHER THAN THE COST OF ACTION

INDEED, SOME BUSINESS THINKERS HAVE SUGGESTED THAT THE ECONOMIC GAIN FROM SOLVING JUST ONE OR TWO PARTICULAR GOALS WOULD FUND THE ACHIEVEMENT OF ALL THE 17 GOALS.
