THINK ABOUT IT

WILL YOU SAY...

"I DIDN"T SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I JUST KEPT WORKING AND TRIED TO SAVE A BIT OF MONEY TO LEAVE YOU?"

OR "I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING REALLY - I JUST SORT OF BATTLED On?" OR EVEN

“I TOOK MORE HOLIDAYS. We FLEW OFF TO SOME OF THE UNPOLLUTED PLACES LEFT.

I TRIED TO PICK A FEW TECH STOCKS THAT MIGHT BE UNICORNS. I ENJOYED MYSELF AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND BOUGHT A BOLT HOLE IN NEW ZEALAND!”

Or might you be able to say this?

‘I learnt as much as I could, about what was really going on.

I read Sir Ronald Cohen’s inspiring book ‘Impact – Reshaping Capitalism to drive Real Change.’

‘I looked up what the Sustainable Development Goals (“the SDGs”) were all about and picked three that I wanted to go deeper into;

‘I signed up to receive a daily email from “Ecowatch” and started listening to podcasts and Ted Talks and reading articles on Social and Environmental issues – and started to share good ones with our family and friends and people at work – and I read Professor Yuval Harari’s books, as a good starting point.”

‘Dad and I spoke to each other about what else we could do. So we agreed on several ways we could try to “stop being part of the problem” and change our lives. And we made a start:

  • We went right through our investments and ensured all our portfolio was in SDG-compliant businesses and green/clean industries;
  • We changed our cars to electric cars;
  • We took recycling seriously, cut out plastic bottles and plastic bags.
  • We agreed we would fly less and train more.
  • We took up biking and planted more trees.
  • We began to only eat meat twice a week, not five days a week!

And as part of Dad’s personal “give back” – for having been asleep at the wheel for the last 30 years on the state of the world – we volunteered one day a week each to help to fight two causes that matter to us (as examples… ‘How to reduce Human Trafficking’ and Rewilding the countryside.)

OUR PRIME PURPOSE IN THIS LIFE IS TO HELP OTHERS. AND IF YOU CAN"T HELP THEM, AT LEAST DON'T HURT THEM."
